Forgotten Ground Regained
Richard Eberhart
Richard Eberhart (1904-2005) was a prominent American poet, winner of Pulitzer Prize for his Collected Poems, 1930-1965 and the National Book Award for his Collected Poems, 1930-1976. However, his reputation was tarnished after his death when his daughter, Gretchen Cherington, accused him in her memoir, Poetic License, of sexually abusing her as a child.
His poem Brotherhood of Men (1949) was, along with Auden's Age of Anxiety, one of the few long alliterative poems published in the first half of the 20th Century.
