Marie Borroff
Marie Borroff (1923-2019) was an American poet, translator, and the Sterling Professor of English at Yale University. Among her accomplishments, she translated the complete works attributed to the Pearl Poet (Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Patience, Cleanness, Pearl, and Saint Erkenwald) into modern English alliterative verse. Her translation of the story of Noah’s Flood (from “Purity”) has also been published in The Yale Review.
