Lewis Turco

Lewis Turco (1934-2024) was an American poet, scholar, and writer, and a prominent advocate of the New Formalism movement in contemporary American poetry. Turco founded the Cleveland Poetry Center at Fenn College in Cleveland (now Cleveland State University) and was the founding Director of the Program in Writing Arts at the State University of New York at Oswego where he was founding Director of the Program in Writing Arts.
His alliterative poetry includes The Hero Enkidu, a retelling based on Sumerian myth, and The Green Knight and the White (search in the interview fr the poem), an alliterative sestina originally published in Measure.
