  • The Modern Alliterative Revival

Forgotten Ground Regained

Clive Staples Lewis

C.S. Lewis (1898-1963) was one of the Inklings at Oxford, along with J.R.R. Tolkien. He is far too well-known to belabor the point on this site.
Links to some of his minor alliterative poems:
  • The Planets
  • We Were Talking of Dragons
  • Artless and Ignorant is Andvari
These three poems, plus one more ("Sweet Desire") are published in Dennis Wise's critical anthology of modern alliterative verse. Wise also published Lewis' most important alliterative poem , "The Nameless Isle", which can also be found in his Narrative Poems.
