C. Day Lewis

C. Day Lewis (1904-1972) was a noted Irish-born poet and British poet laureate from 1968 until his death in 1972. His poem "As One Who Wanders into Old Workings" appears in Dennis Wise's critical anthology of modern alliterative verse, and can also be found in his Selected Poems. Other poems in which Lewis used alliterative verse include "Flight to Italy", published in his book An Italian Visit.
