Sam Newton got his Ph.D. from Cambridge University, where he wrote his dissertation on Beowulf. Since 2002, he has been running Wuffing Education, which organizes study days at Sutton Hoo to inform the public about the early history and archeology of Anglo-Saxon England. His publications include The Origins of Beowulf and the pre-Viking Kingdom of East Anglia (1993) and The Reckoning of King Rædwald (2003). His alliterative verse includes an excerpt from Wuffingatæl, an epic about the Wuffng kings, published in Withowinde, 87, 22-26, Spring 1990.
