Mary Thaler is a scientist and a poet. She got her Ph.D. in microbiology and worked on ships studying marine life in the Arctic. She also writes comics, short stories, and poetry. Her most ambitious work is Ulfhildr, a novella of adventure in alliterative verse, set somewhere on the North Sea or the Baltic during the Dark Ages.
