Luke R. J. Maynard is a writer, poet, musician, and literary scholar. His work, including poetry, short stories, and academic articles, has been published in various collections, both in Canada and the U.S. His most notable work includes his debut CD, Desolation Sound, and his epic fantasy series, the Travalaith Saga (The Season of the Plough, released in 2019, and The Season of the Cerulyn, released in 2024. He lives in Toronto.
He has written alliterative verse and alliterative metrical poems as embedded songs and poems in his novel The Season of the Plough (“Your welkin is woven” (in alliterative tetrameter quatrains) and “The girls have all gathered for harvest” (in alliterative trimeter quatrains) and in his novel Season of the Cerulyn, including “Cat, your kindly kisses” in Skaldic drottkvætt meter, "It pays no help to raise a welt, .. " approximating kviðuháttr, and “The fighting moons” (an alliterative ballad).
