David D. Friedman is an economist, fantasy novelist, and member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, where he is known as "Duke Cariadoc of the Bow". Two of his alliterative poems, "In Praise of Geirr Bassi" and "Hildebrandslied" appear in Dennis Wise's critical anthology of modern alliterative verse. "In Praise of Geir Bassi" was originally published in Tournaments Illuminated, 1978
