Forgotten Ground Regained

The Exiles Return (Isaiah 49:8-13)

Kathryn Ann Hill
A Poem for Laetare, the 4 th Sunday in Lent.
Thus says the Lord, the living God:“I have turned My face to You in a time of favor;in the day of salvation, I have indeed helped You.I will make You My pledge to My own people,to re-establish estates and restore the land, that You may call forth the feeble captives, and summon into the light those sitting in darkness.
“They shall feed by the roads and find pastureon the desolate heights, hungering no more;neither from heat nor sun shall they suffer thirst. For He who pities them will lead them on a pleasant path, guiding their way along springs of water.I will make a road of all My mountains;with speed and zeal I will exalt My highways. They shall come from the north and come from the west—from faraway Sinim see them coming!”
Now sing with gladness and greatly exult,O heavens and earth and high mountains! For the Lord has comforted His beloved people, and will shower compassion on His oppressed people.
