Forgotten Ground Regained
Behold, Your God Will Come (Is 35:3-7)
A Poem for Quinquagesima
Strengthen the hands that are slackened and weak, make sure and firm the feeble knees.Say to the fearful-hearted, “Take heart, be strong!Behold, your God, the Holy One of Israel, will come with vengeance to vindicate and save you.”
Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened to see,and the ears of the deaf shall be opened to hear. Then the lame shall skip and leap like a stag, and the tongue of the mute shall merrily sing. For waters shall burst forth in the barren wilderness, and streams in the dry, desolate wasteland. The burning sand shall become a bracing pool, and the thirsty soil shall become springs of water. And the haunt of jackals, where they enjoyed rest, shall then be overrun with reeds and rushes.
